Reiki
Reiki (pronounced ray-key) is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing. The meaning of Rei is 'universal' or 'present everywhere', although there is deeper meaning within the syllable to include 'spiritual consciousness, the Universal mind, and the Supreme Being, or God'. The meaning of Ki is life energy or vital force. Ki means the same as Prana in Sanskrit and Chi in Chinese. Together the symbols might be taken to mean 'Spiritually Guided Life Energy'.
Reiki treatments allow healing by channeling healing energy to the patient/client. Anyone can learn Reiki and this technique can be used on others and on one's self. We are alive because the life energy or Ki is flowing through us. Ki flows within the physical body through pathways called chakras, nadis, or meridians and can also be present and pass through the organs and tissues of the body. It also flows around us in a field of energy called the aura. The free and balanced flow of Ki is the cause of well-being. Ki nourishes the tissues and organs and cells of the body and supports them in their vital functions. When the flow of healthy Ki is disrupted, it causes diminished functioning within one or more of the organs and tissues of the physical body.
A Reiki session involves focusing thoughts and energies in a positive manner and allowing the energy of Ki to flow through the hands to wherever there is a blockage. The Reiki energy then works with the negative thoughts and feelings that have created this blockage and replaces them with healthy, positive thoughts and feelings, thus releasing the 'byoki' or unhealthy Ki.
